About us

Häfner has been processing plastics for more than 80 years. From its very small beginnings producing hair accessories and combs in the midst of the global economic crisis of 1933, the company has grown to become today’s leading European manufacturer of spools made of thermoplastics.

In 1952, the company produced the first plastic spool. There has been no stopping its growth since then. Häfner set and continues to set standards in the field of plastic spools. Many standards stem from developments within the company.

Meanwhile, Häfner has developed around 1,400 spool variants from 40 - 1,190 mm in diameter for a wide variety of applications. An extensive selection of materials is used for the spools and reels, including PS, ABS, PE, PP and PA. Among other products, Häfner manufactures spools, drums, cops, flanges, tape reels, wound packages, conical and biconical spools, fine-wire spools, single use and reusable spools, separable spools, bobbins, and transport containers.

Large waste bins and environmental protection products as well as various technical parts round off the company’s product range.

Häfner has its own medical cleanroom for special applications. The cleanroom meets the ISO 8 standard set out in ISO 14644 and is certified as cGMP class D.

The manufacturing operations use 46 injection moulding machines in a three-shift system. The clamping forces available range up to 16,000 kN and a shot weight of up to 12,000 grammes. Production and development are certified in accordance with ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 50001 (energy management).

Häfner has two production plants and keeps stocks in an ultra-modern logistics centre. Fast and reliable delivery is therefore ensured even for the most demanding requirements.

In 2018, the owner-managed company employs over 180 people and processes over 6,000 tonnes of plastics a year.
